Cathedral opening draws worldwide audience to Ealing

Formerly known as St James’ Church, it stood unused in St James’ Avenue, West Ealing, for eight years following its closure.

However, it was recently bought and renovated by the local Assyrian community, who were able to walk through its doors for the first time at the weekend.

The Assyrian Church of the East is one of the oldest Christian denominations, with its origins dating back to the early centuries of Christianity.

Communities from around the world were welcomed into the refur...

Where are the butterflies?

In 2024, more than half of species in the UK were in long-term decline for the first time, according to the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme’s (UKBMS) annual results...

How Ealing's Deputy Lieutenant connects the community

He was appointed by Sir Kenneth Olisa, Lord Lieutenant for Greater London.

His voluntary role is the least well known part of the public sector, he says, as the position has no powers, budget or salary.

“Theoretically, it should be useless,” he explained, “but it doesn't work quite that way. The role helps connect, encourage and influence activities across the borough.”

A key aspect of Mr Kornicki’s work is supporting Ealing’s voluntary sector by regularly visiting groups to th...

Divine intervention (with a little Elvis influence) for couple

It was in December, 2009 when Lisa, a single mum to children Jay and Imogen and living in Worcester, came across a post captioned: “Ask and you will receive!”

She admits she said aloud: "God, if you can hear this, please send me someone tall, dark and handsome – and, if he can sing like Elvis, that would be a great bonus!"

Just a few weeks later, Lisa received a friend request from Jason, an Elvis Presley tribute artist.

One month after meeting, Lisa had Jason’s name tattooed on her...
